Public Information Session on Health Innovation School held on May 1, 2017

On May 1, 2017 the core faculty of the Health Innovation School delivered two public information sessions via webinar. There were more than 150 people registered for the two sessions, representing the full cross-section of Dutch health and care. The sessions were led by Karen van Ruiten from the Innovation team at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport; and Zayna Khayat, from the Radboudumc REshape Center.

Karen and I provided background context on WHY the school was created and the overall objectives. We then explained HOW the school was designed and WHAT the program involves.

The details of the three streams of the program were explained in some depth. They then wrapped up the session with practical tips about the timelines and the application process. (Reminder – applications are due by 11:00 pm on May 15, 2017! Apply here).

During the session, which was hosted on the dynamic Zoom webinar platform, participants engaged in a live chat where they reacted to ideas and content, and posted questions for all the group to see and hear the answers to. Here is a transcript of the live chat from the first session, to give you an idea of the conversation that was triggered.

During the second session, we experimented with one of the features of Zoom that allows participants to physically draw or add comments to the screen. With this tool we polled the group to see what part of the Netherlands they were from, and to see what sub-sector of health or care they most identify with. Here were the results of the mapping of participants, showing a nice mix from across the country and the health and care system.

The sessions ended with ~15 minutes of live Q&A, where participants asked relevant questions about the program, and had their questions answered by Karen, Zayna, and Lucien Engelen (who managed the Chat room!).

In all, there seems to be a lot of interest and excitement about the Health Innovation School being offered this year. We look forward to seeing who applies in the coming weeks, and selecting the first ever cohort by the end of May!
